We blame 'Stranger Things'

Retro is well and truly on it’s way to popularity again. They say fashion goes in circles, if that’s the case, the circles are getting smaller – as the relatively recent seventies are soaring to fame again.

From hexagonal tiles, to patterned carpets, we’ve been watching as funky retro colours and shapes are spreading over different areas of interior style. It seems that now even whole pieces of furniture are time-travelling into our homes. The iconic sideboard – a flat-topped appliance with cupboards and drawers, used for storing crockery, glasses, and table linen – is being bought more than ever.

Popular furniture providers Vinterior have reported that sideboards are its number one most searched item and best-selling category. In just the last 14 days, Vinterior has experienced over 12,000 searches for sideboards. Amongst these searches, Mid-Century styles are most popular, with many opting for G Plan models.

Founder of Vinterior, Sandrine Zhang Ferron explains: “The joy of sourcing vintage furniture is that you can be as eclectic as you like and sideboards are a great place to start. Postmodern design in particular looks unbelievable in a super modern setting, and can be styled with a range of different accessories from a mix of eras. The 21st century home benefits from the superior quality which vintage design brings and the natural materials out of which so much of it is made. The most effective interiors are often those which bring together a harmony of different styles.”

These iconic styles are instantly recognisable and help to add a level of character and intrigue to a room.
