A new study has uncovered the precise tweaks homeowners should make to their properties before they put it up for sale.

Airtasker recommends focussing on several key areas when prepping your home for selling: namely, the front door (because first impressions matter, naturally), as well as the kitchen, the bathroom and the toilet. They also advise making sure everything works properly, with repairs also deemed important.

Small details - such as mould in the shower or a blown light bulb - can be total turn-offs for prospective buyers, with tasks including regrouting the bathroom and fixing leaking taps essential.

Painting your walls could be a good idea, according to the Airtasker team; likewise, having a clear-out of clutter can also make good sense. Creating a clean and clear environment is also important, with the following cleaning tasks important to tick off...

- All surfaces, benchtops and cupboards
- Walls, skirting boards, power points
- Windows, window sills, doors, screen doors, fly screens
- Floors, carpets, tiles, timber
- All built in appliances, e.g. dishwasher, oven, stove, range hood, etc.
- Sinks, basins, taps (descaling)
- Baths, showers, shower screens
- Mirrors and wardrobes
- Fans, air conditioners

(Likewise, giving the outdoors of your property a once-over is important: clean the gutters, weed the garden beds and mow the lawn.)

It doesn't stop there. Make sure there are no odours from pets or mildew polluting the air; equally, you could always fill the air with something delicious instead, such as roasting coffee beans or perhaps even the smell of freshly baked bread...

Adding greenery is also important, with the Airtasker team recommending small pot plants as a great way to brighten up windowsills.
