"There was no real kitchen," owner Suchin tells us. "It was completely unuseable."
Suchin runs Such Designs, which specialises in kitchens and bathrooms. "We deal with kitchens on a daily basis, and especially open-plan living spaces," he tells us. "So I had a very clear vision of what I wanted for my own kitchen..."
The project in a nutshell
The property: A detached Edwardian home in north west London.
Who lives there? Suchin and Chintan Pindoria, with their two children.
The plan was to convert the downstairs of the property into an open-plan space, as ideal for family life as for entertaining guests. "My wife hates clutter so plenty of storage in the kitchen was hugely important too," Suchin tells us. "So was keeping appliances and food out of sight - but easy-to-access - meaning the cupboards with pocket doors work really well. In fact, the large bank contains so much cupboard space we haven’t filled it all yet but there’s still time!"
The decision was made to conceal the sink run from view. "It’s generally the messiest area while you’re cooking and when you’ve finished you don’t want to be looking at dirty dishes and cooking paraphernalia while you’re eating so we wanted to have that out of sight from the main body of the room," explains Suchin.
Whilst the family were able to live with Suchin's parents as the renovations - which were occuring throughout the whole house - took place, the close proximity of the two properties meant Suchin was able to be on-sight every day, overseeing the project.
"My top piece of advice to anyone considering to renovate their kitchen is to plan as early as you can," he advises us. "We had all our designs ready in advance, along with pre-prepared costings and I think this was the main reason why everything ran so smoothly from start to finish."
