- How can we make the best use of space? If you don’t have a separate room for dressing, there are plenty of clever ways to incorporate a wardrobe in your bedroom. Think about what storage you require and choose the option that best suits your needs, as providing good storage will ensure your clothes look better and last longer. Carefully consider whether you prefer hanging or folding your clothes, not forgetting storage for shoes, bags and accessories. Transparent drawers with dividers are ideal for jewellery while pull-out tie and belt racks fixed to the side panel of a wardrobe are a good solution, as are drawers with metal bars for storing shoes and special compartments for handbags so they are protected from dust.
- What are the benefits of fitted storage? I think, in general, we never have enough storage and with fitted solutions, especially when it is floor to ceiling, you are using the maximum capacity with no waste. It’s also always tidier if you store your clothes in boxes, whether it is in a walk-in wardrobe or a design with doors.
- What about dividing storage? If you are sharing a wardrobe a combination of long and short hanging space and lots of shelves and drawers are ideal. Shallow drawers work well for underwear and socks while high level shelves can be used for out of season storage. Any other considerations? Good lighting is also essential and a mirror is a must. If you don’t have the wall space for a separate full-length mirror, consider having mirrored wardrobes. Use co-ordinated hangers for a clean look and to stay organised.
